WEEK 6 IMAGE EDITING & MASKS

I used a combination of the techniques I have learned to create the above image. I relied heavily on layering. For example, the moon was a challenge for me until I realized in order to make the moon appear as if it was rising from behind the mountains I was going to have to create duplicate layers and arrange them to create the desired effect.

The river was a success, I am happy with the placement of the river, it's coloring and the shadowing. I was able to match the color of the grass surrounding the river to the wheat field which was a challenge but I am content with the result. I used the burn and dodge tools, as well as highlighting and shadowing filters to make the image appear as one.

WEEK 6 DOUBLE EXPOSURE

HOLLY OWL

This was my first time experimenting with a double exposure technique in photoshop. I always had wondered how artists achieved this effect and was surprised to find how simple the process was.

WEEK 5 PHOTO TRANSFER EDGE EFFECT

                                              ONE IS THE LONELIEST NUMBER

I used the image provided, removing the top wire using the healing tool. The healing tool was very easy to use, and surprisingly accurate. I was very impressed with it's ability to auto populate the erased area. I also adjusted the brightness of the image, intensifying the brightness of the bird specifically. I then adjusted the saturation to achieve the black and white image. Additionally I used auto adjustment on the curves & levels.  The second step of the process was quite lengthy for me, I spent a great deal of time following the steps of the tutorial. Re-reading, backing up, and then doing it again. One of my greatest struggles was overcame when I had realized that I hadn't reset my color palette using the D key to reach the default settings. Overall I am happy with the way that the image above turned out, and I learned quite a bit from this assignment including the keyboard shortcuts. I am looking forward to using the new techniques I have learned.

WEEK 3 DUOTONE

                                                                 MAGIC LIMBO

My goal was to create an image that was surreal and whimsical. I chose a image of a hare, I used the quick selection tool to carefully cut out the hare, removing him from a grassy background. It took me several tries to understand how to properly take advantage of this powerful tool which has now become one of my favorite photoshop tools. I paired the image of the hair with a photo of fireflies. The tones I used were black and mauve. I am happy with the result. One snag I did run into however came about when it was time to save the image. I could not figure out why photoshop would only allow me to save in certain photoshop formats and would not allow me to select jpeg. After scouring the internet for answers, I found that duotone mode could not be saved as an image. I selected RGB color and was finally able to save the image.
